Heretics of the
New York Necropolis

The heretics of New York are varied lot. Some are true believers, men and women who preach their faith to the unguided masses. Some are charlatans, only out to con and canjole the hopefull. Others are dark worshipers, revering specteres, malfeans, and other twisted entities.

There are two main cults in New York; The Brotherhood of Saints, and the Seekers of Job. There are other cults as well, but they are typically small, ranging from two to five members, and they generally interchange followers frequently.

The heretics enjoy somewhat of a freedom not given to most heretics in other Necropoli. Many of the crimes they commit are blamed upon the renegades, and they exploit this to the limit. While sometimes they do get caught, it takes blatant stupidity to do so.

The Brotherhood of Saints are a cohort of true believers. They believe themselves to be caught between heaven and hell, and they hope to find a way to enter heaven. This belief has led them into contact with the Far Shores. They are not certain that Heaven is there, but neither are they certain it's not.

The Brotherhood is made up of mostly christians, but any denomination that believes in God's heaven, can join. They do however, exclude anyone they find 'lacking'. The definition of this word changes case by case, and is at the whim of the cohort.

The Brotherhood is the largest and (interestingly enough) most accepted cult in the Necropolis. The Hierarchy has never moved against them, and probably never will.

The Seekers of Job are a cohort of wraiths in search of true enlightenment through trickery. They actively con the populace at large, and enjoy wreaking havoc with the Hierarchy. They are masters at Pandemonium and Phantasm, and use these arcanoi to further their schemes.

Of all the heretic cults, this one is the only one actively sought after by the Hierarchy. They are rarely caught, but when a member is, he is made an example of. This tactic backfires as it generally just angers them worse.

The Seekers are made up mostly of those who are a little off. Those who didn't fit in or who refused to fit in, are openly welcomed. They train and study Pandemonium, and Phantasm religiously. Many a guild member can be found within their ranks.

Recently there have been rumors of a cult of wraiths worshipping a Malfean. Some say that this cult is made up of certain high ranking Hierarchy officials. Others say that this rumor is just propoganda circulated by Renegades.

The rumors are very much true, as the eighty-second cohort will tell you. During their investigation of the large Nihil that erupted inside the Hall of Mystery, they found evidence of a secret cult in the thrall of a Malfean named Markova. This cult, The Church of the Blighted Sun, has members from every faction of wraith society. The Hierarchy is currently investigating.
